  • The committee supports implementing of the international cataloguing standards at the Finnish libraries. The committee creates policy statements and application profiles in close co-operation with the other national expert groups as well as the Cataloguing standard service of the National Library of Finland.
  • The committee replies to requests for comments on standards by the international standard networks. The committee also forwards comments on standards from the national expert groups to the international networks.
  • The committee is a part of the national network for sharing and clustering of the know-how about the cataloguing standards.
  • The standards in focus are:
    • Resource Description and Access (RDA)
    • International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD)International Cataloguing Principles (ICP)
    • Library Reference Model (LRM)

  • Supporting the adoption of the renewed RDA Toolkit
  • Encouraging the structural change in descriptive metadata Learning more about other than cataloguing standards and other than descriptive metadataand the development of production structures (with recommendations)
  • Supporting the interoperability of different data models (with comments)
  • Defining quality requirements for the bibliographic metadata produced by AI (artificial intelligence)automatically produced bibliographic metadata
  • Highlighting international changes in description standards and themes related to description
