The tasks of the committee:
- The committee supports implementing of the international cataloguing standards at the Finnish libraries. The committee creates policy statements and application profiles in close co-operation with the other national expert groups as well as the Cataloguing standard service of the National Library of Finland.
- The committee replies to requests for comments on standards by the international standard networks. The committee also forwards comments on standards from the national expert groups to the international networks.
- The committee is a part of the national network for sharing and clustering of the know-how about description standards.
- The standards in focus are:
- Resource Description and Access (RDA)
- International Cataloguing Principles (ICP)
- Library Reference Model (LRM)
The main areas of interest on the term 2022-2023:
- Encouraging the structural change in descriptive metadata and the development of production structures (with recommendations)
- Supporting the interoperability of different data models (with comments)
- Defining quality requirements for automatically produced bibliographic metadata
- Highlighting international changes in description standards and themes related to description
