ISSN identifiers are assigned to both printed and electronic publications. In assigning an ISSN, the Finnish ISSN Agency adheres to the guidelines issued by the International ISSN Centre while taking into consideration national adaptations of the guidelines.
An ISSN will not be assigned to a short-term or community publication with little editorial content. Such publications include advertisements, brochures and calendars. If a publication for which an ISSN has been assigned is discovered to be ineligible for an ISSN based on a sample issue, the ISSN can be cancelled.
NB! The registration of the resource is made based on a published sample issue. If the ISSN Agency has not received information about the continuing existence of the publication within three years of granting the ISSN, the ISSN and the registration will be automatically cancelled.
