In a publication consisting of a score and instrumental parts, the score, the set of parts and each individual separately available part will be assigned a separate ISMN.

The score will be assigned the ISMN of the publication as a whole when it may only be acquired as part of the full set, not as a separate product. The score must be assigned a separate ISMN when it is available both separately and as part of the set.

An ISMN must be assigned to each printed part which is available separately. The same instructions apply to individual parts and scores.

A multi-volume publication of notated music is assigned an overall ISMN and a separate ISMN for each volume.
